Ice sculpture series in porcelain.

16" x 6.5" x 9"

This porcelain sculpture presents a confrontation between precision and rawness.

A finely formed, inverted vessel rises from a low, sprawling base that resembles an eroded slab of stone. The vessel’s walls are thin and immaculate, tapering elegantly to a narrow point of contact. Its softly undulating rim opens to reveal a luminous, pale blue interior, evoking water, sky, or a held breath of light. The exterior remains matte and understated, allowing the interior glow to become the focal point.

The base contrasts sharply with this refinement. Rough, uneven, and organically modeled, it appears shaped by pressure and time rather than by hand alone. Subtle traces of blue glaze settle into its surface, visually linking it to the vessel above, as if seepage or memory has passed between the two forms.

The sculpture’s balance feels intentional yet precarious. The wheel-thrown vessel appears anchored but vulnerable, poised delicately on an unstable foundation. This tension animates the work, suggesting themes of reliance, emergence, and the fragile negotiations between containment and collapse.

Overall, the piece invites slow, contemplative viewing. It speaks softly about support and exposure, about how clarity and restraint are often sustained by what is rough, hidden, and unresolved beneath.
