Ice sculpture series in porcelain.

7.5" x 4.75" x 3"

A smooth, crescent-shaped porcelain vessel rests delicately atop a rough, organic base. The upper part is pristine and refined: its surface is satin-smooth, subtly translucent, and softly glazed on the inside with pale celadon tones that catch the light with a watery calmness. Its edges taper elegantly upward, giving the piece a sense of lift and balance, as if it might gently rock or drift.

In contrast, the base is irregular and textured, resembling a fragment of rock, coral, or eroded shoreline. Its glossy, uneven glaze pools in crevices and ridges, emphasizing natural unpredictability and weight. This raw foundation grounds the refined upper form, creating a striking tension between control and chance, polish and erosion.

The dialogue between these two elements—purity and roughness, containment and exposure—feels central to the work. It suggests themes of fragility, support, and quiet endurance, with the refined porcelain seemingly dependent on the imperfect, almost geological mass beneath it. The overall effect is contemplative and serene, inviting slow looking and a tactile imagination, even though the material itself demands careful distance.
