Week 1
Learn how to wedge clay using the rams-head technique.
Learn how to center on the pottery wheel.
Learn how to open the clay on the wheel and start forming the walls of a cylinder.
Week 2
Wedging clay
Learn to center and open clay.
First trimming of mug. Attach a handle
Practice on the wheel
Finish the pieces made the previous week.
Add handles or reform to become sculpture.
Students will learn to see the wheel thrown object as a 3-dimentional object that can become a sculpture or a functional piece
Week 3
Practice on the wheel.
Practice trimming
Decorate and place on drying shelf.
Students will learn join 2 wheel thrown objects, add handles or finish as sculptures
The pottery wheel is just another tool to master.
Learn to let go and make lemonade from lemons.
Go beyond the wheel.
Week 4
Practice on the wheel
Practice trimming.
Decorate and place on drying shelf.
Serious business:
Throw a bowl. Practice the differences between bowls and cylinders
There are different hand positions and actions to take to distinct between different forms.
Week 5
Trim and finish bowl professionally
Decorate and finish all outstanding projects
The work will go into the kiln after this class. Take care of all burrs and unfinished work.
Pay attention to detail and finish mug smoothly.
Week 6
Decorate and glaze
