Writing & Research

My work with porcelain has always involved questions. Understanding why porcelain behaves as it does has become as important to me as learning what I can make with it.

Over many years of studio practice, teaching and research, I have tested clay bodies and glazes, investigated materials and firing processes, and documented both successes and failures. Much of that knowledge has found its way into my articles, blog posts and teaching, and now into my book, Porcelain for the Modern Studio Potter.

I believe knowledge grows through testing, observation and sharing. What works in one kiln or studio may behave differently in another, and understanding those differences allows us to make better decisions as artists and potters.
