Biography for Antoinette Badenhorst

South African-born ceramic artist Antoinette Badenhorst is based in Mississippi.  Working from her home studio, her work centers on the beauty and versatility of porcelain. She creates both sculptural and functional porcelain pieces that are recognized for their delicate translucency, technical excellence, and artistic expression. Her work is held in permanent collections and has been exhibited in galleries and museums internationally.
An accomplished educator with more than 43 years of experience, Antoinette is passionate about sharing her expertise with artists of all levels. She teaches arts-integrated pottery programs in Mississippi schools, leads specialized porcelain workshops in her studio and internationally, presents demonstrations, and delivers inspirational presentations to art organizations and community groups. She also provides one-on-one consultations and mentorship for emerging and established porcelain artists.
As a certified Teaching Artist through the Mississippi Whole Schools program, Antoinette is a dedicated advocate for arts integration in education. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with educators to identify, and nurture young artists while promoting the value of creative learning experiences.
Beyond the studio, Antoinette is an author, researcher, and curator. She has written a book “Working with Porcelain”, published in 2018, several magazine articles, and technical publications on porcelain and ceramics, and she continues to research the field with plans to publish another book. Her expertise has led to invitations to curate nationally and internationally recognized ceramic exhibitions and juried shows, further contributing to the advancement of contemporary ceramics.
Antoinette also produces online educational content from her studio, which serves as a professional recording space for her own courses and collaborations with fellow artists. She personally maintains her website and social media platforms, where she shares new work, educational resources, blogs, artist features, and technical insights into porcelain and ceramic arts. Original artwork is available through her home studio showroom and online.
