Workshop Proposals for Studios, Schools and Ceramic Organizations
My workshops are designed to help potters understand the character of porcelain while developing the skills and confidence to work with it successfully.
For hosted workshops, I offer a five-day hands-on Workshop Program with a choice between Wheel-Throwing Porcelain or Handbuilding Porcelain. I work with the host to develop a program that fits the experience of the participants, the facilities available and the particular interests of the group.

Workshop Format
5-Day Hands-On Porcelain Workshops
My five-day hosted workshops offer a choice between Wheel-Throwing Porcelain or Handbuilding Porcelain. Keeping these approaches separate allows enough time for demonstrations, guided practice, individual assistance and for potters to develop a better understanding of how porcelain behaves.
The workshop is adapted in consultation with the host according to the experience of the group, available facilities and particular areas of interest.
Extended Programs
An extended program combining wheel throwing and handbuilding can be developed on request when the schedule and facilities allow.

What Can a Porcelain Workshop Include?
Each workshop is shaped around the time available, the experience and interests of the participants, and the facilities of the host studio. Depending on the format, topics may include:
- Understanding the character of porcelain and how it behaves
- Clay preparation and working methods
- Wheel throwing or handbuilding, depending on the chosen workshop
- Trimming, refining and altering forms
- Developing form and design
- Carving and techniques for working toward translucency
- Drying and handling porcelain successfully
- Understanding common faults and possible remedies
- Glazing methods suitable for porcelain
- Glaze fit, firing and cooling considerations
Planning a Workshop Together
Every group and teaching situation is different. Before the workshop, I work with the host to discuss the experience of the participants, the facilities available and any particular areas of interest.
For a five-day workshop, we will decide whether Wheel-Throwing Porcelain or Handbuilding Porcelain is the most suitable pathway for the group. We can also discuss the porcelain clay available at the venue, firing possibilities, equipment and any special needs that may affect the workshop.
For international workshops, I often coordinate more than one teaching opportunity during the same trip. This can help make international travel more practical and keep travel costs reasonable for the participating hosts.

Workshop Fees and Arrangements
Workshop fees and practical arrangements are discussed individually with the host. These may include the teaching fee, travel, accommodation, meals, local transportation and any workshop-related expenses.
For international workshops, I work with hosts to coordinate arrangements as practically as possible, particularly when several teaching opportunities can be combined during the same trip.
Once the workshop format, dates and facilities are established, I can provide the host with the information needed for planning and preparing the studio.

Inside Antoinette's Porcelain Workshops
Every workshop develops its own rhythm. The questions, discoveries and exchange of ideas between potters are an important part of the learning experience. These images offer a glimpse into the demonstrations, hands-on practice and individual guidance that take place during my porcelain workshops.
Let's Plan Your Workshop.
If you are interested in bringing a porcelain workshop to your studio or organization, I would love to hear from you.
Tell me a little about your studio, your group and what you hope to offer your potters. From there, we can discuss the workshop format, facilities, possible dates and practical arrangements to see what will work best for your situation.
