Studio Rules for Porcelain Pottery Classes
Age Requirements and Attendance
Porcelain pottery classes are open to students aged 15 years and older.
Children may not accompany parents or other registered students to class. Only registered participants are permitted in the studio during class hours.
Sharing the Studio
My studio will be our shared working space during the six-week course. I want everyone to feel comfortable, relaxed, and free to concentrate on learning and creating.
A few simple studio courtesies will help us maintain a pleasant and safe working environment.
A Respectful Learning Environment
Please leave politics and controversial discussions outside the studio. Our time together is for learning, working with porcelain, and enjoying the company of others.
Please refrain from swearing or language that may offend other students.
Smoking is not permitted inside the studio or near the entrances.
Respect other students' personal space, work, tools, and belongings. Do not handle another person's work without permission.
Please also respect anyone who prefers not to be included in photographs or videos.
Looking After Your Workspace
Keep your workspace reasonably clean and organized throughout each class.
Clay and slurry must never be disposed of in ordinary drains. I will explain how to handle clay water and reclaim porcelain during the course.
Place clay suitable for reclaiming in the designated container. Do not return clay that has fallen onto the floor to your working clay, as it may be contaminated.
Clean clay spills before they dry. Never dry-sweep clay dust. Use a damp sponge or mop to clean work surfaces and floors.
At the end of each class, please clean your workspace and leave it ready for the next group.
Tools, Materials, and Equipment
Students are responsible for bringing their own basic pottery tools. A tool list will be provided before the first class, and we will also learn to make some simple tools.
Your registration includes 5 lbs of porcelain clay, decorating materials, glazes, and firing for the class projects.
Please do not use studio equipment, tools, or materials without permission.
If anything breaks or becomes damaged, please let me or Koos know.
Keep personal belongings and work out of walkways and shared working areas.
Food and Drinks
Water, coffee, and tea are welcome in designated areas.
Please keep food and drinks away from active clay-working areas.
Class Hours
Classes take place on Tuesdays from 6:30–9:00 p.m.
Please arrive on time so that we can begin together.
The studio is available during scheduled class hours only, unless other arrangements have been made.
One Last Thing
Learning to work with porcelain takes practice, patience, and curiosity. Ask questions, respect one another's work, and enjoy discovering what you can create.
If you are unsure about anything in the studio, please ask. I would rather explain something than have you worry about doing it incorrectly.
