Hand built porcelain dinnerware with some translucency that shows with the light source. This is a promotion for the Handbuilding Porcelain Dinnerware online workshop of Antoinette Badenhorst. It prompts potters to register for the workshop at TeachinArt, the online art school for ceramic education.

​​Handbuilding Porcelain Dinnerware online workshop

This 6-week online workshop teaches you how to hand-build a complete porcelain dinnerware set, with an additional 4 weeks for review. The e-course is filled with detailed guidance on creating your own translucent chinaware.
​By following Antoinette's instructions and using her shared dinnerware templates, you'll learn to craft stunning pieces.


The videos provide close-up views of all the challenging techniques. By the end of the class, you'll have the skills to create a full dinner set, and with practice, you'll be well on your way to becoming a professional in hand-crafted dinnerware.

The course covers microwave and dishwasher safety for your creations.

  • Introduction to porcelain dinnerware.
  • Making and using clay rulers to predict clay shrinking during the firing process.
  • Microwave and dishwasher safety.
  • Considerations for glazing and firing porcelain dinnerware.
  • How to form and shape a V-shape mug.
  • How to hand build a tall mug using porcelain clay.
  • How to make a bellied porcelain mug.
Week 2
  • Design for easy cleaning-up after using the dinnerware.
  • ​Trimming the V-shape mug.
  • Design and attach the V-shape mug handle.
  • Trim the bellied mug and attach a foot rim.
  • Shaping the tall mug and attach a suitable handle.
  • ​Make a serving tray with porcelain clay.

Antoinette teaches step by step how to create dinnerware by hand with close-up videos from different directions and instruction, so that the student have no doubt of what is going on on the other side of the picture. During this workshop she is available to answer questions, to evaluate the student progress. She hand out Reviews and a PDF with questions and answers from the students.
