Studio and workshop arrangements (See PDF below)
Meet and greet:  Sunday, (5-30 pm -8.30 pm)
We start with an informal meet and greet.
Supper will be served.  Arrive at around 5-30 pm. Please inform Antoinette if you have a guest for supper, to make provision for enough food.
We will have a  discussion of porcelain/pottery in general and get to know each other.
Please bring images of your work or bring a piece of pottery along.
If you want Antoinette to evaluate your pottery, it would be in a group setting.
Potters will receive :
10lbs clay included in the workshop. If more clay is needed it can be purchased in the studio.
A set of studio tools ( suitable for porcelain) to use for the week and to be returned after the workshop.

Wheel throwing involves the following:
  • Pinching to get to know the clay
  • Throwing specific bowl forms
  • Alter bowls
  • Practice on the wheel.
  • If time permits, wheel-throwing potters can do some of the hand building techniques

Hand building involves the following:
  • Pinching to get to know the clay
  • Slab building an envelope bowl
  • Create a build bowl ( if time permits)
  • Practice hand building techniques
  • Some potters will do both hand building and wheel throwing.
Antoinette will lead with demonstrations and potters will follow the procedures.
By Wednesday night most of the making should be complete, but you will keep the work covered while altering and carving takes place.
The studio is heat and air controlled.  Beware of clay drying too fast. Potters will reclaim their clay throughout the week.
 Studio rules
The studio is open every day by 8 am - coffee in the kitchen
Classes  9-5 every day, with a break for lunch between 12-1 pm - we will order food. Everyone pay for their own (Venmo is available to make it easy)
The studio will close at 6.30 p.m. That will allow you to practice and work independently for 1.30 hours every night Monday-Thursday.  It is required that there are AT LEAST 2 potters working. Antoinette will NOT be one of the two.

Food:
You are responsible for your own breakfast, lunch  and dinner, with the exception of Sunday night.
Please make sure that Antoinette knows about allergies.  Your guest is welcome to Sunday supper, but please be sure to let us know.

The kitchen is available to prepare your own salad or a sandwich and anytime you want to eat together as a group.

Photographs and video clips:
You are allowed to take those. Please share it with me, since I use it for promotional purposes. If you share it on social media, please tag me.
Koos will also take images and video clips throughout the week. If anyone does not want to be included in the imaging, let him know upfront. If you stay silent I consider it as a confirmation from you that it is okay.

Sunday:

General get to know each other
Discuss pots in my collection and pottery in general

Monday:
Discuss the character of porcelain

Demonstrate a pinch pot.
All potters work along to get to know and understand porcelain as the clay medium – this is especially important because as you go back home, some goes to a humid, and others goes back to very dry conditions. You will learn how  porcelain clay dries and how to manipulate and control the drying process, until it is ready to go into the kiln. Remember the Porcelain Diva has her own way!
I do recommend that you finish a few pinch pots, however, the pinch bowls should not keep from making your wheel thrown pots; move on if needed.
There is a lot of pinching involved in all my altering, especially in the altering process of either hand build or wheel-thrown pots.

Demo of wheel throwing:
I will demonstrate a V-shape bowl and if time permits, a U-shape bowl. These are the basics from which I begin my sculpted vessels. Pay attention to the design inside and outside. You do not want your objects to slump in the fire.
Practice these forms and keep one to be trimmed and altered.
Demo of hand building:
I will also demonstrate how to throw slabs. (discuss slabs) Hand-builders will make a V-bowl and/or a U-bowl and sculpted envelope and practice to make these into objects. Keep one of each. Slabs for the envelope sculpted bowl.

Tuesday:
