Antoinette Badenhorst Portfolio

There are always challenges in studio porcelain and I like to take on those challenges by pushing the limits of the clay. To be able to do that, you have to understand the characteristics of porcelain.

I created these translucent porcelain envelopes and added wheel thrown foot rims (pedestals) as part of the decoration. The big challenge in the firing process is the clay movement in the kiln. These envelopes are glazed on the inside with translucent and transparent glazes with mason stains and fired in an electric kiln at cone 10. The outside is not glazed and polished with a diamond sanding pad. I use Southern Ice porcelain clay.

Each of my creations are one-of-a-kind.
