A note from Antoinette.
It is such a humbling experience to read what other potters say about my instruction. My own career would have been so much easier if I had access to good instruction. For a huge part of my career we lived in rural areas where I was designated on my own. I learned the hard way and promised myself to make it easier for others. I am dedicated and passionate to bring knowledge to others, no matter where in the world they are.

Antoinette, you teaching is so clear and easy to understand. I am throwing better than I ever have.
Dympna Painter (Australia)
I have just finished watching the pinch pot teapot classes and wanted to say how informative they are and how much I enjoyed it. I feel I have learned so very much and wish to thank you for sharing your knowledge. I think your class was excellent value, thank you
Ann Richards (England)
I am absolutely loving the course - thank you. My throwing and trimming has really improved over the last four weeks.
Elizabeth Recsy (Switzerland)
I’m very happy that I’ve found your excellent courses. For me every video teaches new things or answers the questions I had. You’re very detailed in your explanations and that’s a huge help for someone like me, with no previous knowledge.
Janice Shack-Marquez (Virginia, USA)
Antoinette Badenhorst, I would never have believed that I could throw five bowls that look so much alike and that are beautifully thin. Your class is terrific!
Marie-Laurence Pearson (UK)
Thanks again Antoinette, for your teaching which is so detailed, helpful and a lot of fun too.
Wendy Whittaker (South Africa)
Thank you so much for the throwing videos. I have picked up many little tips that really have inspired me and taken my throwing on a quantum leap forward. I have had a fabulously fun day testing shapes.
Ann Kenworthy (Massachusetts, USA)
First, Antoinette is a superb teacher, and Koos is a master videographer. He gets detailed shots of hand positions, etc. And I can watch to my heart's content until I understand. If you expand your enterprise by presenting other clay artists, please be sure they are as well prepared and articulate as Antoinette, who has clearly put a great deal of thought into her presentations. As a learner, I found the flow impeccable, the video shots amazing. Compared with the videos on Ceramics Art Daily, for instance, the videography is waaaaaaay superior. I think it's because you take the time to edit carefully, and it makes all of the difference in the quality of the teaching. The balance between design and production is also wonderful.
Amanda Pinkas (Isreal)
Thank you for the fantastic e-course! So much very practical and useful info!!! I absolutely adore Antoinette and Koos!!! Antoinette is a total delight, and very approachable and helpful!! Thank you for your generosity of spirit and your humor.
Anne Davey (New Hampshire, USA)
I love handbuilding and have learned so much already. There are so many little hints and tips in the videos - I am finding them very helpful.
Josias Amaral (UK)
Hi Antoinette, your course is brilliant. I certainly will do the other courses as well.
Sarah Hildebrandt (Texas, USA)
Miss Antoinette, I wanted to thank you and your husband for all the hard work that y'all have put into making this platform for learning ceramics. I really enjoyed that your personality came through while you were instructing, the lessons were by no means mundane & I certainly was never board. You included great tips and tricks along with pushing me to think outside the box in my throwing and altering.
Kate Ellin (New Zealand)
Well structured class, videos flowed easily from one to the next allowing me to follow along and come out with a teapot at the same stage as Antoinette's. Camera angles etc, were really good, you could see what you needed to.
Agnese Aljena (Latvia)
Thank you, Antoinette and Koos! I learned soooo much! And that feeling, when you start to feel and are not afraid any more... My love to porcelain and ceramics is just growing to the moon (and some day will come back as well). So thank you very much!
Patricia Forst (Canada)
The course was well thought out and clearly delivered. The photography was well done, giving us great views of exactly how each pot was made. Very clear instructions and I enjoyed the little bits of humour that popped up periodically.
Laura Howe (Michigan, USA)
The videos are so well done and edited very well. There was so much covered it was hard to absorb it all. I really enjoyed the last set of videos on making the 'envelope' bowl.
Cherri Lamarr (Colorado, USA)
I love how everything is explained and appreciate the great camera angles and close-ups to make sure I get to see everything...as if I were present in the room.
Jane Morton (Delaware, USA)
the details of the process that were shown in the videos and Antoinette's explanations were spot on. Also the ability to submit question would clear up any issues I was having. I had limited use of porcelain when I started but now it is mostly what I use. Standard porcelain and adding cottin linten to the clay. Was a great boost to me when I needed a new direction. Antoinette is very entertaining and informative willing to share her expertise with students.
Marcia Grant (Illinois, USA)
It is obvious that Antoinette has extensive knowledge and experience in working with the Diva! There are lots of tips along the way and the camerawork is excellent in showing exactly what Antoinette is trying to show and explain. Antoinette has a very relaxed approach.
Clelia Mandrilly (New York, USA)
Antoinette is a great teacher, enthusiastic and generous. As you watch the videos you can feel how she really wants to share her knowledge with the students.
Linda Lebrun (Canada)
That was a great workshop, and a lot of fun. Now that I’m back in my home studio and working with porcelain, I realize how much you taught and how much further I can push the “diva” than I was doing before.
Cheryl Herr (Iowa, USA)
This course (thrown dinnerware) is making a huge difference in how I throw. Thanks so much for showing your meticulous care in making the various pieces. Wonderful.
Faja Schroeder (Germany)
Dear Antoinette, dear Koos thank you for your wonderful course and for your help. Your course are great! I learned understand porcelain. I can make pots and vases now. And I can make my porcelain flowers now! And I can plant my porcelain flowers in porcelain pots! Without this that would be impossible! Thank you!!!
Jodi Fox (Pennsylvania, USA)
I learned so much from this class! I had previously treated stoneware and porcelain as the same bodies, which explains my frustrations with it. After watching your videos, I successfully threw and trimmed with real porcelain. Adding vinegar to the water makes throwing much more pleasurable.
Amy Strapec (Pennsylvania, USA)
Thanks again Antoinette and Koos for your beautiful spirits! Antoinette, we are already thinking of how we will get to another workshop with you either up in the north or back in Brasstown!
Rynie Tredoux (South Africa)
I enrolled for all Antoinettes classes so far, and i enjoyed every minute of them all, and i have learned so much from her. Would love to be able to buy the online videos if that would have been possible.
Appreciate it a lot that Antoinette took the time and effort to share her fast expertise with us all. Thank you so much and keep those classes coming.
Michelle Maki (Georgia USA)
You have taught me so very much in these past few weeks! I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your knowledge and the way you express the process through the videos! Your course is what I expected when I took my initial pottery course, however that was not to be. My questions were always answered with resistance. I wish I could express how much I really value your talent!
Evelyne Schoenmann (Switzerland)
I'd like to say a few words about the e-course. I'am one of Antoinette's students in her e-course classes. When I first heard about the course, I wanted to join, but was thinking: "how can that work? We students are scattered all over the world. How shall we listen and work as if together in a room?" But I knew Antoinette already from LinkedIn and so I trusted her. She and her husband Koos did a great job, I must admit! We get plenty of information about the origin of porcelain (did you all know porcelain is man made?) and about its characteristic. We get videos where we can see Antoinette working and telling us how to do things, just as if we were in the same room! We have the porcelain tea room on fb to meet and chat and discuss questions/answers. We get homework and can upload pictures of it, so that Antoinette can see our problems (or our success). She is teaching with heart, soul and passion! We all are very content with the course.
Thank you, Antoinette, for making it possible!
Monique Vanmollekot (Belgium)
Antoinette, I just watched the videos of this week. Thanks for the great videos. YOU ARE AN OUTSTANDING TEACHER. I’ve taken pottery courses in the Academy of Arts + several training sessions with different potters, I never had such a detailed training and explanations with such knowledge sharing. Nobody explained to me to avoid slip with porcelain ....after explanations, it’s so evident, you are right. Thank you so much.
Emrys Le Roux (New Jersey, USA)
I have to say I am very, very pleased with this class so far. I have taken clay building and porcelain classes and no one has gone into as much detail as you have in the few classes we've had so far. Thank you, I look back now and see I didn't get my money's worth but with your class I am. Will be a forever student of yours. Thank you for such an opportunity.

I'm really glad I took this e course. Understanding Porcelain. I had thought I should take a more advanced course since I already work with porcelain. But I'm humbled by how much I learned, even a bit overwhelmed. You answered questions that I didn't even know I had and brought up my standards for porcelain work. Now that I know better I must do better. Thank You Antoinette.
Tzipora Zimmerman (NJ, USA)
Thank you Antoinette, I appreciate critique so have no worries. When I watch you on video, I think I can do your magic, but then reality sets in when I try. I am so happy that I took the class and have been sensitized to your style. As of yet I have no style so it's wonderful to experience you in my infant state.
Martha Cheney (Ed. D MS, USA)
She is a highly skilled teacher who shared her knowledge and skills patiently. Regardless of the setting, Antoinette’s passion about pottery is obvious. She is a well-prepared presenter who accepts responsibility for engaging students of all ages in the creative process.

I'm now totally obsessed with trimming my pieces as thin as possible. Not sure that's a good idea for functional ware! I'm spending far too much time trimming but once I see a peek of that pinky orange glow peeking through I can't stop myself! In telling myself that I need to push the limits. Hopefully I'll learn soon enough what can and can't be done. I guess I'll see what happens in the firing.
Elaine Rebman (GA, USA)
I did not know what to expect but the class was far above my expectations. The amount of clear and detailed information was most generous. The information on finishing was extremely helpful for me. Best wishes and thank you.
Lynn Barnwell (Owner Hinckle Creek Pottery, Corinth MS USA)
She shares her knowledge at the drop of a hat and can mesmerize you with her skill at the wheel.
Grace Lin (CA, USA)
Thank you so much for the wonderful envelope instruction, Antoinette! smile emoticon It's very inspiring to see how you create such beautiful pieces. I really like it when you touch on the subject of how to make the pieces pleasing to the eye, paying attention to the proportion, size, angel, form,...etc., in addition to the technique.

- Thanks for all the great info and especially the great demos. You are the queen of form follows function.
- This has been the most wonderful course. Antoinette is a master teacher ...
- Thank you. You are a fantastic communicator.
- I've been potting for years, off and on, and it's hard to believe that I've never made a pinch pot! It was amazing to see how much I could handle the porcelain, refine its shape, how water affected it, how strong it was --
all revelations to me. I can now imagine making lots of things by hand, starting with little holders for the skinny candles I bought for the holiday table, all with the maker's mark instead of the precision of thrown objects. It looks so much more organic and alive. And now that I know how strong the porcelain is, there are visions of cut and lapped thrown bowls and plates stirring in my head, too. Thank you, Antoinette! Everything you are teaching about hand building can translate in some way to more invigorating thrown pots. - Well, I just read the review of bowls on week four, day 1. Antoinette, that review was so good. It captured those "little foxes" that often spoil the vineyard (my pots). So, now to get going on plates! Yahoo!
- Love working at my own pace, which is not fast! After all, I am a RETIRED teacher!!!! Am leaving town for a few days and will get behind, but not to worry. I'm there with you! And since Ive worked with you in a workshop, I knew I would love your teaching and explanations. This is my first ecourse ever, so I find it great that I can go at my own pace.
- Oh, whatever you decide to do next, count me in!! You are a marvelous teacher and this class has been a lot of fun as well as extremely beneficial to me! I've been throwing stoneware for a couple of years now and have always wanted to work in porcelain. But I was afraid of it, and being self-taught, had no one to show me. Discovering your e-class has been wonderful! Thank you for sharing your talent and expertise with us!
- Hi Antoinette, I find that an ecourse is making it much less stressful to find the time to at least watch the videos and learn from them. Koos, thanks for tip on photography! Your accent, it is wonderful and I understand all.
- I love Antoinette's clear explanations and demos and thank you Koos for getting those great close ups so we can understand what's being explained.
- I find myself leaning towards the computer screen trying to dive into it. The trimming tips are invaluable!!!! Especially when the slip is left on there, it will crack. Thanks! I always wondered why that would happen in stoneware and now in the porcelain!
- I'm in awe! Antoinette, the video was just packed full of information that was all new to me. The whole corse just came together! So much information... I will have to watch and watch again. I am inspired.
- First pinch pot...fail! I think that I made the bottom too thin. I'm going to watch Antoinette's video again and this time try with less clay.
- I LOVE this class and your language is great! No problems understanding. You have such a great way of teaching.....interesting and understandable. Thanks Antoinette...tomorrow fingers in clay....probably won't be very quiet then!
- I am very happy , you explanations and demo are completely complete. Love this
- I really like your version of an e-course, your passion for porcelain and teaching is contagious!
- I finally started pinch pots today. A surprising realization is that with the constant pinching and rotating that I'm training my fingers to recognize differences in the wall's thickness… not something my eyes are seeing, but my fingers are reading and then compensating for by pressing harder or letting up if it feels thinner. That feels like an important first step.
- I watched all of the week 2 pinching videos again this morning and the sequence of when to do each process is making more sense now. This W3/D1 review was hugely helpful as a memory tool. And it clarified more fully when it's appropriate to use water while smoothing and when to stop moistening the clay.
- The beer can idea of making your own smoothers helped me.
- Really enjoyed todays review. Even after watching and rewatching the videos I felt a little unsure of when to do what (not that you didn't explain it well enough Antoinette, but it was great to see the actual stages in one!). I have manage to get my first uncarved piece VERY thin....it feels like a fine seashell, so I am keeping my fingers crossed that it's going to be transparent. I didn't feel worried about cracking it as I was thinning it out though...it felt quite strong I thought!
- My best effort! Amazing how much patience clay can teach. Thanks Antionette for your wonderful explanations and demos.
- Thanks for quick response. Have to tell u....I'm getting so much out of this course. It's a really great experience. You do it all so well and with such grace!
- Just watched today's videos. So absolutely great how you talk to that drunken Diva. And hey, not only you are enjoying this course, we enjoy it too!
- i have just caught up with watching this weeks video it is so detailed and well done ! thank you antoinette for sharing so much of you knowledge and you koos for the great tec support
- Though I'm not throwing, as a hand builder, there is still so much to take from Antoinette's detailed descriptions. Her concern with the movement of the particles is something I never thought about. It could be why I've had warping warping problems in some fired pieces.
- I think I see much more porcelain in my future. I love the feel of it, the trimming, and burnishing. I really hope you teach another class to follow this one. I know it's a lot of work, but you have so much knowledge and are a very good teacher.
- This week's project feels very intimidating to me! Making something by hand that is so large! However, something that helps A LOT is your willingness to be filmed and share with us your own discoveries along the way, and when you change something and show it.
Like when you decided to make additional darts to see where it would go. Actually demonstrating that instead of just saying it is somehow empowering to me, and helps me not be so intimidated. - Count me in for any class following this one.
- I'm sure whatever you'll come up with will be excellent. I've been wanting to compliment Koos on the selection of music on the videos, really like it.
- Good questions and very clear, easy to understand answers.....also got a lot out of written review. For me it helps to keep going back to the videos and replaying....that answered a lot of my questions as I worked.
- I can see rings inside and even a tiny air bubble, but this is fun. Thanks Antoinette. This is the most comprehensive instruction I have ever gotten, love it.
- The videos are excellent - the attention to detail and reviews are outstanding - thank you Antoinette and Koos!
- I just love your videos, so detailed. I finally got a chance to throw today. The vinegar really helped and I love the feel of the water.
- Antoinette, this is working! I got to less than 1/2 a pencil width by compressing and thinning with the 2 ribs. I've never before been able to use one inside and out together. Your explanation of the rib positions and Koos's camera view looking right down the wall with both ribs visible made it click for me. Thank you for those videos today. …so helpful!
