Sculpted Envelope Bowls

Sculpted porcelain envelopes are crafted from two slab shells joined to form a hollow bowl. Antoinette modifies these by removing and replacing slabs, coils, or pinched parts. The envelopes are elevated on a wheel-thrown or hand-built pedestal. By carefully balancing the artwork between the elegant pedestal and the larger bowl, Antoinette ensures the pieces remain stable. These creations are ideal for display on a mantelpiece, windowsill, or inside a lit cabinet. Many of these bowls are perfect for creating ambiance with focused light shining from above into the bowl.

Envelope process
  • Each envelope is hand made, one-of-a-kind collector's item.
  • Pedestals are wheel thrown and the porcelain envelopes are press molded, altered and carved.
  • Glazed (using own glazing recipes) on the inside only to show the translucency in the porcelain.
  • Outside is polished white porcelain.
  • Fired in electric kiln to 2336° Fahrenheit (1280° Celsius).
